That concluded our Death Valley visit. We were planning on spending that night in Desert Hot Springs in Southern California, so we had a lot of driving to do. I was hoping to get to some big sand dunes near Kelso in the Mojave desert before the sun set and get some good photos, but it was going to be tight. Once the car was out of the windy roads that ascended out of Death Valley I set the cruise control on the car to 85 miles per hour.

Soon we started to see many yukka and Joshua trees by the side of the road. Cindy wanted to stop at some point and get a photo next to a Joshua tree but I thought that we would be seeing many Joshua trees in the Mojave and hoped that when we got to Kelso we could get a photo then. Unfortunately the sun went down just before we got to Kelso. We stopped where the main eastern train line out of Los Angeles crossed the small desert road and took some photos of the sunset.
